In this episode, Michael sits down with Dr. Taz to discuss the dangers of mold in our homes as well as the solutions!
Dr. Taz explains that she’s witnessing more and more mold toxicity cases coming into her practice. As both Dr. Taz and Michael mention, a toxicity and exposure epidemic. The question then is, are we getting worse or are we becoming more aware?
Michael believes that it’s both. As a society, we’re considering mold more frequently as consumers when thinking about homeownership. On the other hand, there’s a lack of knowledge, especially in the new home construction industry. We’re just doing things wrong, like not creating and maintaining a vapor barrier. That leaves the door wide open for moisture and mold to take over. Michael also goes through other issues existing in the construction industry and changes that need to be made to avoid mold, regardless of where the home is.
Michael and Dr. Taz further discuss steps buyers can take to ensure their home is safe before moving in. This goes for new and older homes.
Another problem rests in not informing homeowners about mold, how to prevent mold in their homes, and what to do if they find mold. A mold event can happen to any home, either from neglect or from an unexpected event. Being prepared for these events can save homeowners time and money while also avoiding any potential side effects.
The adverse health effects from mold range widely. They can be irritating like allergy symptoms or they can be more severe like chronic fatigue and brain dog. No two people are the same. Michael and Dr. Taz go through several scenarios they’ve seen and how mold spores aren’t the only things to worry about- mycotoxins and bacteria are also a concern. Michael explains how bacteria can be related to a mold event in a home.
Unfortunately, the current healthcare system doesn’t always identify mold exposure or environmental factors as the root cause of the issue. That leads to symptoms persisting or never getting properly diagnosed.
The health effects of mold exposure are why remediation is so important. That’s why Michael’s company HomeCleanse is spearheading a new path called bio-remediation. By fixing the source and eliminating both mold and its byproducts, effective individuals will be able to live healthily in their homes again. Michael goes through AAR’s proven treatment processes and what individuals should expect when looking at remediation protocols.
