Health, Wellness, and Environmental Exposures

Michael Rubino

January 12

Michael discusses how he got into the remediation realm and why he decided to spearhead a company to help those living in homes that are making them feel ill. As he says in the episode, many people rarely consider that indoor mold growth is a problem, but it’s a huge issue in society. Many individuals will continue to feel unwell for some time because the societal infrastructure doesn’t think about environmental contaminants like mold exposure as the trigger for their symptoms.

Michael and Madison dig further into how the medical field views mold and the gaps that exist for those affected by this fungus. While many doctors will look at genetics and predispositions, few will think about environmental exposures when making a diagnosis. They also chat about the HLA-DR gene that some individuals have that prevents them from detoxifying naturally from mold exposure.

When it comes to mold prevention, Michael details how homeowners can actively work towards avoiding mold growth in their homes. Modern building practices, unfortunately, promote mold growth so it’s more important than ever to do what you can to stop this indoor contaminant from making its way inside. These methods also need an overhaul to help prevent this from happening as well. The more proactive we are as a society now, the less sick individuals will feel later down the road.

They also discuss Michael’s book The Mold Medic and why he decided to share all of his knowledge about mold. As he said, he can’t fix the worldwide mold issue one home at a time so he wanted everyone to have the resources they need to handle a moldy problem.
